Have to say I expected a whole lot more.
The simple fact that they could have done for germophobes what Jaws did for hydrophobes left me massively disappointed.
With such a viral subject matter and a cast of hollywood elite backed with a director with real talent this film just lacked any sort of emotional connection.
It wasn't until one of the closing scenes of Matt Damon crying in his closet that I realised how calm everyone was that millions of people were dying and how much I disliked the film.
Maybe too much going on in a relatively short amount of time? Not enough time spent with each storyline to care about them?
Not sure but great acting and writing surely could have made up for that.
    Booooooooooo.

Totally agree with you chad. They could have really gone for it with the "invisible" killer theme, but Soderbergh reverted to type too quickly.

    WARNING SPOILER ALERT
Mass killer virus. Global panic. People die. American saves the day.

As i mentioned before, i love the part where they explain the origins of the handshake! Would have preferred a hand job though.

Movie club down, but not out...

  3. This film was made by a Dalek. Every single piece of emotion was painstakingly removed from every character and scene. You just wished the virus would spread faster, wipe all the "characters"???? out and then we could all go and have a beer. If you are looking for a good virus thriller watch 28 days later, it's 10,000 times more potent. What a boring, wasted opportunity from a great Director, contaminating a cinema near you.

  4. Movie club lives to fight another day unlike an awful film that in the first ten minutes promised to be quite engaging, a shame every slither of life was systematically removed from the script. Given what they had to work with, the actors (as you would expect) played their parts relatively well. A shame that the script was about as lifeless as a bloated corpse.

3/10- Roll on Next movie night....Things can and will only get better!

  5. Do I really have to review this? I feel like I lost enough of my life just watching the damn thing. Ok, I'll try...

Let's start with the positives: It ended. Kate Winslet's performance for me was the only highlight, but compared to other films she has done this will rank as one of the 'remind me to thank my agent' choices.

The reason this film was such a let down was the fact that it promised so much and delivered so little. Yes it was good to see all sides of the situation but the danget with that is you spin a lot of plates and therefor dilute your efforts across the board. Jude Laws character for example...was he faking the cure he was selling? Did he ever get silenced by the government? Why was he an Ozzie with a dodgy tooth?!

There was too much emphasis on the science of the virus and not enough of a character. Like chad said it could have been a real 'Jaws' type beast but it really felt weak - possibly due the lack of emotion from the lose of several hundred million people.

The opposite end of the spectrum from the previous Movie Club offering, I wonder what's next? I'm starting to wonder if Tintin is as good as Rottentomatoes.com claims it to be!

  6. Formulaic Hollywood shite. I've never wanted to punch Jude Law in the face so much.

    WARNING SPOILER ALERT
Gwyneth Paltrow's brain autopsy with her floppy forehead looks awesome!

Besides that this has absolutely nothing to offer. Avoid at all costs...
